Hang in There: A Best Score Award and the Music Behind the Film
The trophy photograph on my Music page marks a milestone in my work as a composer: receiving the Wisconsin 48 Hour Film Project Best Score (Soundtrack) award for my original music for Hang in There.
A score is part of a film’s storytelling. Alongside the images, performances, editing, and sound, it helps shape how a scene feels and how an audience experiences the story. That connection between music and moving images is central to my work as Veena Media.
Music made for a shared story
Hang in There was created for a 48-hour filmmaking competition. My contribution was the original score, one part of a collaborative film made within that time frame. The recognition belongs in the context of that teamwork: the film gave the music a story to support.
I am grateful to the filmmakers who created the project and made space for my music within it. Receiving this award was an opportunity to celebrate that collaboration, as well as an encouragement to keep developing my voice as a composer.
Beyond the trophy
This photograph sits alongside my live sound and electronic performance work because those are connected parts of my practice. Live sound involves listening and responding; composition asks how sound can carry feeling across time. Film brings those interests into a shared visual narrative.
